Ride days

Track time
done right

Open ride days I run at motocross parks around Central Victoria and beyond. Sessions split by ability, coaching on tap, and none of the pressure of a race meeting.

Dates

Dates coming

Dates for the coming season are being locked in with venues now.

Every day runs under a Motorcycling Victoria permit, which has to be lodged at least four weeks before the event — so dates get published once the permit and the venue are both confirmed, not before. Register below and you will hear first.

What you get

What the day includes

A ride day should be worth more than gate money at an open practice. This is the difference.

01

Track all day

Gates open early, sessions run until late afternoon. Track prep between rotations so it is not a rut farm by lunchtime.

02

Sessions by ability

Juniors, club and fast groups run separately. You are not sharing a berm with someone twice your pace.

03

Coaching on tap

I ride, then I stand on the fence. Grab me between sessions and we will sort out whatever is not working.

04

Photo and video

Every rider gets shots from the day. You paid to ride it — you should have something to show for it.

Permitted & insured

Run properly

Insurance only applies where a permit is in place. Plenty of unofficial ride days skip that step. These do not.

Permitted

Every ride day runs under a permit held by an affiliated club, lodged well ahead of the date. No permit, no day.

Insured

Cover attaches to the permit — public liability for the event and personal accident cover for riders through the sanctioning body's scheme.

Officials on site

An accredited Steward, briefed marshals and first aid are on site for the whole day, as the sanctioning body requires.

Coaching under permit

Any coaching on the day is delivered by an accredited coach under a coaching permit — not a mate giving tips.

Affiliation & cover

Australian off-road sport is sanctioned by two independent bodies. Which one covers a given day depends on the affiliated club holding the permit, so both are set out here rather than left implied.

Before you come

The practical stuff

What licence do I need?
You do not need one beforehand, but you need one to ride. Depending on which body sanctions the day, that is either a single-event or an annual recreational licence, or a free come-and-try licence if it is your first time. You can sort it at the gate — the exact option and fee is confirmed with each event.
What gear is required?
Helmet, goggles, boots, gloves, long sleeves and pants, and a back protector or roost guard. No helmet, no ride — there is no flexibility on this one.
What level is it for?
Every level. First-season juniors through to riders chasing a state title. Groups are split by pace, so nobody is out of their depth or held up.
Is it insured?
Yes. Every day runs under a permit from an affiliated club, which is what activates cover. A ride day without a permit is a ride day without insurance — always ask, at any event, not just mine.
Can parents and spectators come?
Yes, and they are free. There is somewhere to sit and somewhere to work on the bike.
What if it rains?
We ride. Days are only moved if the venue closes the track, and if that happens your spot rolls to the next date or you get a refund — your call.
What do I bring?
A bike that passes a basic safety check, fuel, tools, water and food. Some venues have a canteen, some do not.
